While we have really enjoyed Sydney, the last couple of weeks have been really intense, so it goes without saying that we are really looking forward to the start of our incredible ‘Nine Week Adventure.’ We only came back in February from our incredible ‘Big Surprise Adventure’ but we have been working ever since. Fair enough, this isn’t that long at all, however, when you’re a backpacker who treats working as a means to see more of this incredible world that we live in, even a few months of being ‘An adult’ is more than enough. All this working and travelling, it’s such a hard a life. God help us when we do settle eventually. It will be so hard just working all the time. For now, we’re going to enjoy being on ‘The Big Adventure.’ After all, being an adult is so overrated!
The day has finally come! It’s like Christmas. Nine whole weeks of pure adventure. No work, no worries! Trying to make your way to the airport by public transport during rush hour traffic is no easy feat. Thankfully we didn’t have our big backpacks. That would have been a complete nightmare. At least we arrived at the airport in good time. Missing our flight is a no, no! we have been so looking forward to being back on our adventures. The flight was nice and easy. We spent most of the journey travelling across Australia looking down at the outback. There may not be much there, but it is still pretty impressive. Just over six hours later, we arrived in Bali!
After disembarking from the aircraft and doing the usual airport stuff, we found ourselves trying to negotiate a good price with the taxi drivers. I say we, but it was all Jay Jay. He certainly knows how to haggle. After a lot of back and forth we eventually found a driver that was willing to accept the price we wanted. We may be tourists, but think you can fool us, think again!
For once we decided to splash the cash and book into the ‘Harris Hotel,’ a lovely three-star hotel. It was proper luxurious. As my mammy would say, ‘It’s a must, you simply have to!’ And right she is. Let’s get real about it, we worked very hard over the last few months. I mean, it was just terrible. When we went up to our room, we were very impressed. One thing is for sure, we will be comfortable here for a few nights. After settling in, we both went for a bite to eat in a really nice café. The staff and the owner were extremely friendly, but most importantly, the food was amazing. After our lovely cuisine, myself and Jason decided to go for a swim in the infinity pool. There’s nothing nicer than a nice evening swim. The only thing that could have made it even better would have been a nice cocktail. I guess you can’t have everything!

The following day, myself and Jason decided to put our walking shoes on and go exploring. The best way to see a new area is to just get out there and get lost. And that’s exactly what we did, apart from getting lost! Just about! We knew where the beach was, so we just walked towards the beach and simply just kept on walking in and out of little streets until we eventually discovered we were right back where we began, our hotel! Happy days! What I really like about Bali so far is how friendly the locals are. Yes, they try to sell you things and yes they constantly ask you if you would like a taxi, but it really doesn’t bother us as they aren’t pushy, they only ask the once. There is definitely a more laid back, easy going vibe which is making our experience of Bali all that bit more special. While the majority of Indonesia our Muslim, most of Bali are Hindu and the strong belief of karma and doing right is very strong by how helpful and respectful the locals are. As they belief in many god’s, all around the town and even on the beach there are statues representing many of the different ones. It’s certainly an interesting little town with many market style shops selling everything and anything!

Later on that day, as recommended by Brad, a work colleague of Jason’s, we went back down to the beach to enjoy a sunset in a rather exclusive rooftop bar, ‘The Double Six Rooftop Bar.’ After walking along the beach, when we arrived at the resort, our feet were black from all the volcanic sand. The two of us went straight into the toilet to hose down them down. Eventually we made our way back to security where we were brought up to the bar. Let’s just say it is extremely fancy. It’s not open that long, so as you can imagine, everything is very modern and brand new, with a prices to match. It isn’t cheap, but a nice cocktail while enjoying a nice sunset is very special, so we didn’t mind.

Here we are, back on our little world exploration with another new country ticked off our list. While we really enjoyed Seminyak and its very friendly people, it’s time to move on to the next place, even if we didn’t get to spend that much time here. The problem is, there are just too many incredible places to visit and just not enough time!
