The Whistle Blower

Location:
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

It took us two short flights to get to KL. The first flight took us from Sepilok to Kota Kinabalu. Even though we were at a very high altitude, we could see Mount Kinabalu on our right side as if we were flying close to the ground. Don't forget that at its peak, it protrudes to a whopping 3,398 metres from the ground. Now that is impressive. Our next flight was nice and quick as well, which took us from Borneo to the mainland. When we arrived in KL, we jumped a bus and a train into the city.
Arriving at 'The Reggae Mansion' is like coming home. When we stayed there originally we both agreed it was one of the nicest hostels we have stayed in. That was then and this is now! When we checked in we were greeted by very friendly staff. One of them even remembered Jason. I mean, who could forget his lovely, bald head. We took the decision this time to book into the 24 bed dorm as we heard really good things about it and how it was a lot more spacious. My favourite thing about this place has to be the beds, or shall I say 'Pods.' Each bed is built in to a spacious, personal area that is sealed from everyone else with a curtain. It's definitely a close contender with Melbourne's 'Urban Central' to the hot spot. All though the latter will always be our number 1!
When we began our travels back in 2014, we met a guy called Jordi from Holland. Jordi happened to be arriving into KL the same day as us. Of course, it would be rude not to meet up with him especially given the fact that it is also his birthday. With our hostel playing home to a really cool roof top bar with spectacular views of some of the cities best known icons, we all enjoyed a couple of well earned drinks. Our bucket of cheap whiskey and coke brought us right back to our 'Zoe In Yellow' days as we partied through the night. It was really nice meeting up with our travel buddy , who invited us to his wedding in Indonesia in May.

My favourite thing about KL has to be the 'Petronas Towers' which are stunning. They are a piece of art. Of course, not everything and everyone in the city is so nice. Bathing our feet in the lovely cool water, these horrible, rude security women decided to blow their whistle at us to get us to move on. Like I said to Jason 'I have never been so insulted in all my life.' If that wasn't bad enough, later on that night, we went to take some photos in the park right beside the towers. This time we were greeted by the rudest most obnoxious security guard I have ever met, who literally barked at us 'Closed,' shooing us with his hands to move on, treating us like dogs. Such horrible creatures. Like I used to say 'Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee People.' Apart from them, we did have a nice stay. We even enjoyed my favourite 'Cappuccino bar, ' and a packet of 'Percy Pigs' from M&S. Oh how I have missed you! Heaven on Earth! Jason was happy as he got his cinema fix with a nice bite to eat in Chilli's'! We are certainly easily pleased!

This time round, we didn't have very much time in the capital city, but we will return soon. It's definitely not our favourite place in Malaysia as there are some incredible places to visit. I guess for a couple of nights it will do the job!
