The Big Surprise

When Jason told me he was planning a 'Big Surprise' for my 30th, I was very happy. However, it was hard to get excited as that was August and it seemed oh so far away! It felt like it would never come. Anytime he mentioned it, a glow in his eye and a smile on his lips could be seen. Could it be that this little secret that he was keeping from me could be the key to our most 'Epic' adventure yet! Or is it going to be like a much anticipated Hollywood movie that doesn't live up to expectations! Going by how excited my Jay is, I think it will be a blockbuster success.

After getting over the shock of a surprise holiday, the next thing to do was to figure out where exactly we are going. For me, my money is on Fiji! But who knows. Only time will tell. It's all very exciting and for someone that loves surprises and adventures, my Jay Jay knows me oh to well! But does he know me enough to arrange my dream holiday? I hope so or he is getting a slap!

After months of anticipation and everyone asking me where I think we're going, the day is finally here. You could say the big man with the white beard is a little late but nevertheless, at least he is finally here. I feel like a little kid again, waiting for Santa to come. Well, the day is finally here. In just a few hours time, I will find out the truth behind a surprise that has caused so much secrecy, excitement and anticipation!

Luckily for me, problems that were forecasted when being issued with a new passport a week before we were due to fly out of a country where my legal right for entry is linked to my old passport. For most people it would be fine. For me though, well, I am me after all, and not everything I do makes sense! For some strange reason, in my previous passport, my middle name, 'Douglas,' my beloved fathers name, was omitted! I don't know why that was the case. As you can all imagine, it was very important for me to have my dad's name on my passport and to have him close to me on my big adventure! A few days before we were due to fly, I was very organised, I printed a form off online with a copy of my birth cert and a copy each of my old and new passport. I even got them signed by the Senior Sergeant in work. If there were going to be any problems, they weren't going to cause to much trouble for us. The day before we were due to fly out, I suddenly realised that I had sent it to the correct department in Canberra. It should have gone to Cairns. Without getting too stressed, Jason comes up with a simple but genius idea. 'Why don't we go to the immigration office here in the city!' Before I knew it we were at the office. I explained my situation. Both my passports were taken from me and before I could even blink, the woman at the counter came back to me to inform me that my new details had been updated without any fuss at all! Just like that! Oh what a feeling!

Now back to the big day, we were able to board the plane with no fuss whatsoever. And not having our big backpacks with us was like being in heaven. It was a long flight, eight hours to be precise. But it seemed a lot quicker. I knew since we were flying with 'Air Asia' that our destination would be KL in Malaysia, as that is the airlines main hub. However, I was still in the dark about where we were really going.

From arriving in KL and boarding our next plane it was as smooth as a baby's bottom. With just enough time for a nice coffee and a bite to eat. After seeing a wad of notes in Malaysian currency, it all became so clear!

I was wrong all along. But how did my darling Jay hold onto such a huge secret for so long? I have to admit, I didn't think he had it in him. I am very impressed!

As we touched down at our destination, the air stewardess wished a fellow passenger a 'Happy Birthday' over the intercom. Then, something really strange happened. A rather cheerful, up beat happy birthday music was played to keep us entertained while we taxied to our gate! But where exactly are we?

'It all became clear!' Borneo is the answer! 'Dum Dum Dum Dum!'
