Euro Trip: Munich, Bavaria, Germany- The Last Stop!

Even though we weren't too far from Munich, it took us longer than it should have. First of all, we had to change buses in Zurich which meant about a two hour wait at the bus station. To make things worse, opposite where we were waiting was where the buses pulled up to empty their unwanted waste, down a man hole. As soon as we saw a bus pull up, we automatically said 'Not another pissy smell!' You wouldn't even get that in Asia! One particular driver really took his time trying to get his bus in the right position, that eventually when the bus was ready to empty itself, most of it ended up missing the hole! The smell! Not a very good first impression of Switzerland. To be fair, most of the buses were German, so lets not blame the Swiss!
After our long, smelly wait, the second bus finally arrived. While the first bus was lovely, the second one was a bit too full. To make things worse, it was virtually impossible to tell which seats were free as nearly everyone had left the bus to get some fresh air. When leaving the bus, they made sure to put their things on both seats so nobody would sit next to them. So selfish!
The journey back into Germany was an experience to say the least. It's something I won't forget in a hurry. Soon after a short break, we were pulled over by the police and we were all asked to show our passports. I was one of the lucky few that was given their passport back straight away. One guy was escorted by the police off the bus. I don't know what it was about. All I know its that we were waiting quite a while for him to return so we could continue our journey to Bavaria! Of course, knowing that we couldn't check in until the afternoon, the longer it took, the better!
Eventually, we arrived at the bus station. Our hostel wasn't too far which meant we could walk to it without any struggle. When we found 'Jaeger's Hostel' the guy behind the desk informed us that we could leave our bags there, but because the lobby area was closed, we weren't allowed stay in the building. Luckily for us, he quickly changed his mind and let us stay. To make things even better, he told us that he would ask a colleague when they come in at 6am if we could check in early which only meant less than a two hour wait. True to his word, as soon as the first person came in, he asked them straight away. Thankfully they agreed. Which meant we were able to go straight up to our lovely beds.
Like most cities, the best thing to do in order to see everything is to walk around, which is what we did. Boy, did we walk around. We must have nearly seen everything! After exploring the city centre, we thought we would venture a little outside the centre to the famous 'English Garden.' Lets just say, when we arrived we saw things that nobody should see! People there with everything hanging out and in broad day light! I mean, what would the neighbours say? To make things worse, I should have remembered as I visited that exact same spot the least time I was in the city! Luckily enough, the 'Free Spirits' were only confined to the banks of the river. We managed to find refuge on a little hill that a monument on the top of it! Of course, poor Jason needed a beer. After all, we did see some things that no one should have to see! And I mean no one! Did Jason enjoy his beer and did it 'Free his spirit' so he could go holding hands, dancing into the sunset? (Pinch Bubble) What do you think? Yeah, he is still deciding on whether to keep his long hair or get it shaved! Personally, I think he should keep it? What do you think! (This reader needs at least two needles to pinch their balloon- a little wacky if you ask me- I'm sure a lovely person, really! Good bless you, cause your going to need all the help you can get!)

A few minutes later, we decided to go for a walk and see a bit more of the park. It's certainly big. That's for sure. One of the really cool things it has is 'River Surfing' where people come along with their surf boards and catch a few waves. It's really cool to see. You don't expect to see guys surfing in a park in the middle of a city!

Poor Jason got a bit frustrated with me on the way back as I wanted to see everything. I was constantly in and out of everywhere. There is a lot of nice things to see including gorgeous gardens and when the weather is so nice, it makes it all that bit nicer.

Later on at the hostel we got talking to a guy from Spain who was staying in our dorm. I say talking, but we weren't really as he had no English and we had no Spanish. However, with modern technology, we were able to have a proper conversation with him through our phones. That's how you embrace everything and everyone!
Each day we've been saying we would love to do the free walking tour as it's run by the same company who we did our last walking tour with in Berlin. That tour was brilliant. I don't think I could rate it high enough. Finally, this morning, we managed to wake up early so we could finally do it. Our tour guide was really good. He knew a lot, maybe at times just a bit too much, but certainly very interesting. We were able to find a lot out about how for instance, the world famous 'Oktoberfest' started and interesting facts on how Munich got to become the city we all know and love today! We also discovered out that while the drinking age in Germany is sweet sixteen, having a drink of beer is your legal, nutritional right in Bavaria, even up to this day, which means someone under age and request a drink and say 'It's my legal right!' Not sure if it will work, but give it a go if your brave enough! During the tour we got chatting to an Aussie guy called Brett who is really friendly. All in all, a good couple of hours but really hot! Not that I should be complaining!

After the tour, we headed back to 'Marienplatz' where we had a good look around the town hall. We finished our little tour at the top of the tower with amazing views of the city. At least we could get a lift up to it. Across the road was another tower except with no lift just 300+ steps. Jason was definitely not impressed with me when I informed him that I wanted to climb to the top of that tower as well, but I think it was worth it.

While in Munich, we made a couple of friends including Bobby from Detroit who is a really nice guy. We also made friends with a German guy who was really interesting to talk to. He was telling us all about the Berlin wall and how different East and West Germany became.
After years of wanting to go to Germany, Jason finally made it over and I think he really enjoyed it. The two of us have had a lovely time being home and on the 'Euro Trip.' We have had an amazing time. Munich is such a lovely city. It's a lot more chilled than Berlin with so much history and culture. We can not wait to come back and maybe see more of the beautiful Germany and all she has to offer! Who knows, maybe next time Jason might even get to visit his Great Grandfather's grave! He's German you know!
