Kampot, Cambodia

Getting to Kampot was easy enough. We got a minivan up here and it only took two hours. The hardest part was finding somewhere to stay. Everywhere place we looked at was fully booked. Eventually we found 'The River Lodge Guesthouse'. Like the other places, it's beside the river, however, it is closer to the town. The room is nice and comfortable, however, there is no one else staying here, so the guesthouse is lacking any kind of atmosphere. Kampot seems very much untouched and raw than some of the other places we have been to. The area is very rural with lovely backdrops of the mountains and lovely views of the river, which makes Kampot very peaceful and tranquil. I think this will really suit Jason and Kathrin who are both not a wella! In the end we decided to stay only one night here. It was very expensive at $20 and the whole place was dead. We checked out 'Olly's Place' again, and this time they had two bungalows for us. The best part is that its only costing us $6 per bungalow, which is really good, plus, It's is so nice and chilled here. Everyone is very friendly. It's beside the river but with nicer views and you can even swim in it. There are lovely, comfortable hammocks throughout the bar/restaurant area. We have died and gone to heaven. This place is really nice. It allowed us to relax and recharge the old batteries. We did however go on a nice boat ride along the river, which was very peaceful and tranquil. When we got back, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset, and surprisingly, I even got up early the following morning ( 'thanks Kathrin!') to see the sunrise. It was magical. So beautiful. While the sun was sleeping, the three of us enjoyed a couple of drinks and some nice chats in the bar next to us. After a short while there, we decided to go back to our resort. Walking back in the dark, there was a woman across the road. She looked very scary, and then she said something. It could have been something friendly or a nasty spell. Who knows? When we got back to our resort, we were surprised to find the bar was closed. It was only early, but it didn't stop us enjoying ourselves, so we found another bar. In our bungalows we had lots of friends to keep us company at night, from lizards (big and small) to bed bugs to rodents! Is this trip turning into a series of 'I'm a Celeb?' Overall, we really enjoyed Kampot, especially the amazing 'Kampot Pepper.' It's a good place to come to if you want to see more of a raw Cambodia, and of course, if you want to just relax!
