Koh Rong Samloem Island, Cambodia

The great thing about travelling is that anything can happen. It's simply one big adventure. After spending enough time in Sihanoukville, we decided to get 'the Party Boat' out to the second nicest beach in the world. Getting onto the ship was an experience. We had to get a small boat to it. To get onto that boat, we all had to jump onto a tyre and then onto the boat. It's all part of travelling. Eventually we got onto the ship, where we got talking to a nice Aussie man, who was very friendly. We told him all about our travels and where we're going next. On its voyage to paradise, the ship stopped off at smaller island so we could go swimming in the water. Jason being Jason decides to jump off the top of the boat with a 50 foot drop into the water. Everyone else did it and they were fine, but whatever way he fell into the water, he really hurt himself. Hopefully he will make a full recovery. When we arrived in Koh Rong Samloen, it was like arriving in paradise. This place is the most beautiful, unspoilt place I have ever been to. The sand is pure white, the water is crystal clear and you have a whole backdrop of the jungle. It's beautiful and all the buildings are all huts with thatch roofs so they blend in nicely. We’re staying right on the beach in 'The Beach Resort' in a dorm. It's like no other dorm I've ever been to. There are two floors with double beds on a raised part of the floor. I say bed, but it’s only a mattress. However, each mattress has its own mosquito net, which made Jason very happy. Knowing him, he will probably try to squeeze it into my backpack, so I better keep an eye on him! When we got up to the dorm, Kathrin started jumping up and down with excitement. The Kathrin we know and love had finally returned! Later on in the evening after some nice food, we all chilled out on the beach listening to the waves and looking up at the stars. While enjoying the stars, 'The Mad Cat Lady' spotted a little kitten who was in need of a bit of TLC. After a few minutes with Kathrin, he moves on to me. However, he thinks I'm his mother and starts trying to get milk out of me. Then he spots a couple walking along, and decides to follow them. 'Where is the loyalty?' I ask you my friend! What a perfect but strange way to end our first night in paradise. After a nice sleep, I eventually woke up and I thought I was in heaven. After a bit of food to start my engine off, avoiding all the crabs everywhere, I walked across the pure white sand and into water you can see right through, for a really nice swim. It was a definitely a nice way to start your day. The island is so chilled and laid back. It's the perfect spot to come to if you want to unwind. So mam, I'm bringing you here when your older! One of the best things we did here was sitting by a fire on the beach. It was very quiet with no one around. Kathrin even supplied the music, which made it extra special. The fire didn't last too long as we had to keep feeding it with things, but it was cool while it lasted. A perfect way to spend an evening under the stars. The other morning, Kathrin woke up during the night and heard something chewing something next to her. She didn't think much of it, until the next morning when she noticed a huge hole in her bag. Well at least her brother or sister had a good feed. Talking about brothers and sisters, in the men's shower area was a big lizard with tiny little eggs high up between two beams. Nature really is amazing. Surprisingly for me, I managed to get up to catch the end of the sunrise. It was beautiful as the beach was completely empty. It was worth it. I still managed to go back to bed after it, so definitely a win win situation for me. One of the nicest things about this island is that it is so remote. You’re away from everything and there is no wifi anywhere on the island. So far, this is my favourite place we have been to. If you’re planning on coming to Asia, it is simply a must. After all, who wouldn't want to visit paradise?
